Name: Nigel Quick - Jersey Office

Company Role: Managing Director

Favourite quote or saying: “We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall never surrender!” – Winston Churchill, 1940.

Today we welcome Nigel Quick, who recently joined Cherry Godfrey as Managing Director. Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Nigel! First of all, we’d love to know a little more about you. What’s your background, and what brought you to Cherry Godfrey?

I have 40 years of experience in the insurance industry with a bit of time in a software training firm thrown in. After 20 years with my previous employer, I felt I’d reached a natural ending point; and, after working for a global corporate, I was looking for something smaller and more personal. Cherry Godfrey seemed a great fit. So far, I have been particularly impressed with Cherry Godfrey’s customer-facing ethos.

What was your first job, and what did you learn from it?

Selling motor cycle insurance at Norwich Union! This taught me many things, such as how to deal with a wide spectrum of the public.

Who is your professional role model – who inspires you?

Steve Jobs: a man who knew what he wanted and was determined not to lose sight of his vision.

What qualities make a great leader?

The ability to listen and also make decisions - even in adversity.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve ever faced at work – and how did you overcome it?

Taking over from someone who had left the job in a total mess. I won through in the end. Keeping organised was key!

Thanks, Nigel. Now, onto the fun stuff! If you were able to invite any three people round for dinner (living or dead), who would you choose?

Winston Churchill, Steve Jobs and Nelson Mandela.

And, finally, what do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Walking and running. Photography and reading. Southampton Football Club – although the enjoyment is sporadic!
